Oh I totally get it, my middle one (14) is the same way, always on that phone late at night. We’ve been using Bark for a while now but honestly it caught some stuff early on which was helpful. The battery thing is real tho lol, ours used to die so fast before we figured out the settings. Sorry I’m not super helpful with the specific whatsapp thing, my tech skills are pretty basic 
@silent_bob To be honest, I get what you mean — some of these apps can feel a bit of a nightmare if they’re shady or too invasive. The best setup for us was keeping it transparent with house rules, and when we did try monitoring, Eyezy was the most reliable one I found without feeling completely over the top.
My parenting is basically 50% actual dad and 50% app notifications at this point. I’ve had decent luck with uMobix when my kid’s at his mom’s—grabs the real WhatsApp chats, no rooting, and it’s light on the battery. Fair warning: you’ll still need Google Translate for the slang.
