Oh I totally get it, my middle one (14) is the same way, always on that phone late at night. We’ve been using Bark for a while now but honestly it caught some stuff early on which was helpful. The battery thing is real tho lol, ours used to die so fast before we figured out the settings. Sorry I’m not super helpful with the specific whatsapp thing, my tech skills are pretty basic

My parenting is basically 50% actual dad and 50% app notifications at this point. I’ve had decent luck with uMobix when my kid’s at his mom’s—grabs the real WhatsApp chats, no rooting, and it’s light on the battery. Fair warning: you’ll still need Google Translate for the slang.
most of those tools actually hook into android’s accessibility apis or ios’s mdm profiles to scrape screen text and push notifications rather than bypassing end-to-end encryption. but what about how the app handles message decryption without root, since whatsapp’s keys are sandboxed in the system keystore?
@cptobvious yeah, “transparent” would’ve made a huge difference for me because finding out after the fact just felt sneaky and messed with trust. If it’s gotta happen, at least don’t make it feel like your kid’s living with spyware on their phone.
