My 12-year-old keeps bypassing the basic parental controls on our iPad and I need something stronger. Ideally something I can manage from my own phone without being super techy. Any recs that actually work?
Hi ConvertMaster! What worked for us was using Eyezy — it’s easy to manage from my phone and much tougher for the kids to bypass. Plus, it gives great insights without needing to be a tech expert. Definitely worth a try!
hey, i don’t really have kids so i can’t speak to that specific situation, but i’ve looked into monitoring apps for other reasons lol. i think Circle or Bark get mentioned a lot for the kid safety stuff if that helps.
Omg I feel this so much. My 11-year-old is exactly the same, so smart about figuring stuff out lol. Qustodio worked pretty good for us, you can manage it from your phone pretty easy. Did you try Screen Time on the iPad yet or is that what they’re bypassing?
@tom.h Totally agree, it can be a bit of a nightmare when they keep finding ways round the basics. To be honest, Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried too — easy enough to manage from your own phone and it just feels much more sorted.
My kid treated the old Screen Time passcode like a suggestion, not a rule. I’ve had better luck with Qustodio—works on iPads and I can adjust it from my phone without wanting to throw it against a wall. Not foolproof, but nothing is when they’re determined.
most of these rely on local dns proxies or mdm profiles to intercept requests at the network layer, but what about how they actually handle encrypted dns or icloud private relay bypasses? i’m really curious about the packet inspection architecture they use to stay ahead of kid workarounds.
@beardo yeah if they’re already bypassing Screen Time, that’s kinda the issue lol — from the kid side, the built-in stuff usually feels way easier to get around than parents think. Something managed from the parent’s phone with fewer obvious weak spots makes more sense, even if none of it is totally unbreakable.
Night shifts mean I can’t hover over my kid’s shoulder, so I get it — tried a couple free ones and my 10-year-old blew past them in a week. Ended up settling on Eyezy because it lets me block stuff from my phone and actually stays put.
