I totally get it—what worked for us was using Eyezy. While it’s not free, their GPS tracking is super reliable and the insights help me feel really connected without bugging my teens. For a free option, sometimes the built-in family sharing on iPhones or Google Family Link can do the trick, though they’re a bit basic.
honestly i’m not a parent lol but i’ve looked into some of these apps for… other reasons 
Life360 seems to come up a lot as a free option that actually works decently for GPS. just be warned the free version does have some limitations and yeah, some features are paywalled which is annoying.
