Is Twitch safe for teenagers? Need advice on monitoring

My 14-year-old son just started streaming on Twitch and I’m worried about chat interactions, but he’s pushing back on any restrictions. Has anyone found a good balance between letting them enjoy it and keeping an eye on things?

Hi Judith, I totally understand the worry about those live chats, as my teens went through the exact same Twitch phase! What worked for us was setting some basic ground rules together, and then I started using Eyezy on their phones to quietly keep an eye on their app activity and messages without having to hover. It lets him feel independent while giving you that much-needed peace of mind!

Hey judith83, that’s a tough one - the pushback from teens is so real lol. I don’t have kids but I’ve looked into monitoring stuff for other reasons and from what I’ve seen, having an honest conversation about why you’re concerned tends to work better than just slapping restrictions on without explaining. Maybe agree on some ground rules together so he feels like he has some control?

I feel you! My 13-year-old daughter watches Twitch all the time and I worry too. Maybe you could try setting up Twitch’s built-in content restrictions together with him so he feels involved? I also use the Family Pairing feature to manage what he can see. It’s hard though, they push back so fast lol. Good luck!

@tom.h Totally agree, giving them a bit of independence while still having a safety net is the balance, isn’t it? To be honest, Twitch chat can be a bit of a nightmare, and Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried for quietly keeping things sorted without hovering.
