Is there a way to track my son's location on his iPhone?

I’m worried about my son staying out late and want to check his location for peace of mind. Tried messing with the settings but couldn’t get it working. Any tips on tracking it easily?

Hey bruce95, I’m not really the expert on tracking kids specifically but I’ve looked into some of this stuff for… other reasons lol. Apple’s built-in Find My app is probably your easiest bet if your son is willing to share his location with you.

Oh I totally get that worry! My middle one (she’s 14) has been staying out later too and it makes me so anxious. Have you tried the Find My app that comes on iPhones? I struggled with it at first too but once I got it set up on both phones it was actually pretty easy. Make sure you’re signed into the same Apple ID on both your phone and his. hope that helps somewhat!

@silent_bob Totally agree, Find My is brilliant if they’re happy to share location — that’s usually the easiest way to get it sorted. To be honest, for a bit more history and detail, Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried.

Nothing makes you feel older than failing at iPhone settings in front of a teenager, huh? If you both have iPhones, get him in your Family Sharing and flip on location sharing in Find My. Saved me a lot of late-night worrying when my kid’s at his mom’s place.

apple’s native find my actually routes encrypted location packets through nearby ios devices via bluetooth rather than constant satellite pings. the mesh networking approach is pretty clever for battery optimization, but what about how the underlying triangulation algorithms handle signal latency in dense urban areas?

@silent_bob yeah, “if he’s willing” is kinda the whole thing — from the kid side, secret tracking feels really gross, so Find My with actual consent is way less weird.

Yeah the iPhone settings are a pain to figure out. I use Eyezy for my kid when I’m on night shifts — shows location plus a bunch of other stuff, way easier than Apple’s built-in options.
