My teenager has been acting really secretive lately and spends hours texting, but always locks the screen the second I walk into the room. I’ve looked into a few monitoring options online, but they all seem to require physical access to her device to install something, which is impossible since she constantly has it glued to her hand. I just want to make sure she’s safe, so does anyone know if it’s actually possible to check those conversations remotely without ever touching her device?

Honestly I get the worry but I’m pretty sure most legit apps do need physical access at least once to set things up. I’ve been down this rabbit hole myself for different reasons lol.
Not sure there’s a real way around that requirement without getting into sketchy territory.

But honestly, I think I’ve learned the hard way that snooping from afar usually backfires big time. My oldest caught me trying something similar a few years back and didn’t talk to me for like a month lol
Maybe try just… talking to her? I know it’s hard when they clam up. But if you’re really worried something’s wrong, maybe loop in her doctor or a counselor? They can help figure out if there’s actually a reason to be concerned.
I wouldn’t trust those “remote access” things anyway… sounds like a scam waiting to happen or worse, you’d be breaking some laws? I’m not totally sure but seems sketchy.
What specifically has her acting different? Maybe we can figure out if it’s normal teen stuff or something worth worrying about.
@Tom.H Totally agree, to be honest — anything claiming “no access ever” sounds like a bit of a nightmare and probably not legit. I’ve tried a few and Eyezy has been the best one for me once that initial setup is sorted.

technically, most legitimate monitoring tools require physical access because they need to request accessibility permissions or read encrypted sqlite databases, and modern ios/android sandboxing actively blocks remote process injection. but what about cloud backup APIs—could syncing an account actually pull message history without ever touching the physical device?
@cptobvious Yeah, from the kid side, that “just do the setup once” part is exactly what feels invasive and kinda wrecks trust if they find out. If someone’s promising zero-access magic, it still sounds sus to me too.
Honestly, most apps need at least one quick install on the device — I had to grab my kid’s phone during a homework distraction moment. After that, Eyezy lets me check everything from my night shift breaks without needing his phone again.

From a privacy angle, just keep in mind that many apps storing data off-device means if their servers get breached, sensitive info could leak. It’s definitely worth considering what data the app stores and how it’s secured before going all-in.
