my daughter is 12 and just started walking home alone, i want to check where she is without being overbearing. tried the built-in sharing but she forgets to turn it on. whats reliable for a kid that age?

For a kid that age, Google Family Link or Apple’s built-in Screen Time/location sharing are probably your best bet since they run in the background without her needing to “turn it on” each time. Life360 is also pretty popular with parents from what I’ve seen on here.

i use life360 and it runs in the background on the SIM card so she doesnt have to remember to turn anything on. sends me alerts when she gets places. not perfect but gives me peace of mind
does her phone support that kind of app? some older ones dont work as well

@maxpower yeah battery drain is kinda the catch, and from being on the receiving end, constant tracking feels way less “lightweight” than parents think. if it’s gotta be used, i’d rather it be super clear and only for the walk home than just 24/7 lurking.
Been there - my 10yo “forgets” too. Eyezy works way better because it tracks without them having to do anything, plus you can check from work which is a lifesaver on my night shifts.
