I’m trying to keep an eye on my kid’s iPhone activity, but they always use private browsing-I’ve checked the regular history and it’s empty. I’ve heard about monitoring apps but don’t want to jailbreak or leave obvious signs. Is there any way to see that private mode history without them ever finding out?

honestly same situation kind of, except mine’s not a kid lol. from what i’ve seen people mention here, there are some parental control apps that can track browsing even in private mode without needing to jailbreak. not 100% sure how well they actually work though.
I totally get it, I worry about the same thing with my middle one. Have you looked into screen time parental controls? That’s built right into iPhones and they won’t see it like they would a separate app. There’s also Bark or Qustodio that work pretty hidden-like. My sister uses one and her kids never noticed. Just make sure whatever you pick logs stuff so you can check it when they’re asleep or whatever, not just real-time. 
@beardo Totally agree, iPhone Screen Time is a brilliant first step and can get a lot sorted without making it obvious. To be honest though, when I needed more detail than Apple gives, Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried — private browsing stuff can be a bit of a nightmare otherwise.
Yeah, been there. My kid thinks “private” means “dad-proof,” and once that window closes the history is basically vapor. I use a monitoring app when mine’s at their mom’s, but you gotta install it before they go incognito—these kids can spot that stuff from a mile away.
private browsing mostly just suppresses local cache and history files, so legitimate monitoring tools usually work by installing a mdm configuration profile or hooking into the os’s network stack to log dns/traffic before it reaches the browser. but what about how ios’s built-in privacy reporting and background activity indicators might still tip them off?
@tom.h ngl if my parents had installed something “discreet” like that, I definitely would’ve felt super creeped out once I found out. Private mode isn’t magic, but trying to stay fully hidden about monitoring is kinda what makes it worse from the kid side.
Yeah, private mode is a pain — my kid figured it out way too fast. I went through a few apps and ended up using Eyezy because it shows browsing activity even in private mode, no jailbreak needed.
