hey, i get the concern but i’m not super familiar with teen monitoring stuff specifically - my situation is a bit different lol. from what i’ve seen on here though, most of the legit parental monitoring apps require you to install something on the device at least once, so you’d probably need the phone briefly at some point. might be worth checking out the parental controls category on this forum for more targeted advice!
Yeah I worry about this stuff too with my oldest. Theres these parental monitoring apps like Bark or Qustodio but you usually gotta install them on the phone first I think. Not sure about doing it completely remotely though… I’m not super techy sorry

I get the worry, but going full secret agent usually backfires. I just use a monitoring app my kid knows about—mostly so I know he’s not dead when he’s at his mom’s. Way less drama than trying to hide it.
technically, most remote monitoring solutions rely on either cloud backup synchronization or a mobile device management profile that usually triggers a visible system consent prompt. but what about how modern os sandboxing restricts background data access, do these tools actually hook into system apis or just parse the local message databases?
@lil_debbie yeah honestly as someone who found out I was being monitored, the secret part is what messed with me most. If safety’s the goal, being upfront is way less creepy and probably works better long term.
