As a parent, I’m trying to keep an eye on my teen’s screen time with Instagram’s “Active Now” feature, but I’ve heard it might not always be true. Can anyone tell me if it’s usually accurate or if it can be confusing sometimes?

I’ve personally noticed it staying on for like 20+ minutes after someone closes the app, so I wouldn’t fully trust it for monitoring purposes.
Hi JacobMiller! I worry about this stuff too with my kids (my middle one is about that age). From what I understand the Active Now thing can be a lil delayed or show wrong. Sometimes it says they’re on when they already closed the app. There’s also settings that let them hide it from others. I’d maybe look into the parental controls Instagram offers too. @beardo Totally agree, the “Active Now” thing can be a bit of a nightmare because it’s not always real-time and kids can tweak settings too. To be honest, Instagram’s own controls are a good start, but Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried for getting a clearer picture without all the guessing.
I’ve refreshed that page enough at 11pm to know it’s more suggestion than science. “Active Now” basically means the app is open somewhere, not that they’re actually looking at it. Don’t bank on it for anything more than a vague guess.
