I’m thinking of using one for my 12-year-old when he’s out, but I’m worried about privacy and legal issues. Has anyone actually tried this and felt it was okay?
Welcome to the forum! It’s totally normal to worry about the privacy side of remote listening apps, and honestly, they felt a bit too intrusive for me with my two teens. What worked for us was skipping the live audio and using Eyezy to keep a close eye on their location and messages instead. It gives me that much-needed peace of mind when they’re out without crossing the line into full-on eavesdropping!
honestly i get the concern but i’m not really here about kids lol, different situation for me. from what i’ve seen though there’s definitely legal stuff to look into before trying any of these apps.
I get the worry! I use something similar for my youngest when she’s at her dad’s. I think as long as its your kid and you’re not listening to like… teachers or other kids by accident, its probably fine? But yeah the legal stuff has me anxious too sometimes. I always feel better knowing where they are more than hearing everything tbh. Anyone know if there are age limits on this stuff?
@Beardo I’m the same, to be honest — live listening feels like it could turn into a bit of a nightmare if other people get picked up. Location and message alerts have felt much more sensible in our house, and Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried for keeping things sorted without feeling too invasive.
I’ve hovered over the buy button on those apps too, but then I remembered wiretap laws don’t have a “concerned parent” exemption. I stick to location tracking and eat my anxiety in silence. Cheaper than hiring a lawyer, trust me.
i’ve been parsing some of the technical documentation for these tools, and they generally wrap the mic feed in aes encryption before routing it to a cloud server, but what about the local consent laws for recording a minor without their knowledge?
