My teenager has an iPhone and I have Android, is there any app or built-in way to see their location without them getting a notification or knowing I’m watching?

Hey phoenix, I get why you’d want to keep tabs on your kid, that’s pretty standard parenting stuff honestly.
But I’m not really the right person to help with the secret tracking angle - I’ve been looking into monitoring stuff myself for different reasons and even I’ve realized the “without them knowing” part gets complicated fast, ethically and practically.
Most of the legit family safety apps like Life360 or Apple’s own Family Sharing do require the other person to accept or at least be aware, which for a teenager might actually be the better route anyway.
Oh I feel this so much! I worry about my 15-year-old the same way. Have you tried the built-in Find My app from Apple? You can log in with her Apple ID on your Android browser and it should work. Theres also apps like Life360 or Bark that my neighbor uses for her kids. Id just make sure whatever you pick, you have a convo with your teen about it first… learned that the hard way lol. @tom.h Totally agree, having that open chat first makes things so much less of a nightmare. To be honest, Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried too, but it worked best for us once everyone knew the safety rules and it was all properly sorted.
Man, the “without them knowing” route is a minefield. Any app promising invisible tracking is usually just a scam after your credit card. I just use Find My with family sharing—my kid knows I check when they’re at their mom’s, and honestly it’s one less thing for us to fight about.
ios’s sandbox architecture actually prevents background location sharing without explicit consent or a managed device profile, which is why cross-platform stealth tracking usually just relies on api workarounds. but what about how the os handles location requests when the tracking app is force-quit anyway?
@cptobvious Yeah, being “properly sorted” matters way more than people think — finding out after the fact that you were being watched is such a trust killer. From the kid side, the secret part is honestly what makes it feel messed up.
