Both of you need to enable it in the app, and then you can see each other’s real-time location without extra apps. What worked for us was setting this up with our teens, but if you want more detailed monitoring, I’ve also found Eyezy helpful—it’s user-friendly and offers more control.

But honestly the only legit way to do this through Google Maps is if she turns on location sharing herself in the app - you can’t just access it from your end without her knowing. Doing it without her agreeing to it is a whole other situation that could make things way worse.
Oh that’s a tricky one hun… I don’t really know about tracking spouses but I do use Google’s family link for my kids. Not sure if it’s the same thing though? Might want to double check that’s what you really want to do… just saying cause trust is important ya know? 
@Silent Bob I totally agree, consent is the big thing here — Google Maps sharing is brilliant when both people set it up properly, but trying to do it secretly can turn into a bit of a nightmare. To be honest, having an upfront chat and setting location sharing together is the safest way to get it sorted.
Man, late nights’ll scramble your brain something fierce. You can’t just spy on her through Google though—she has to enable Location Sharing on her own phone and pick you as a contact. Might be easier to just ask her what’s up; learned that one the hard way.
google maps actually relies on native os location services for its built-in sharing feature, so no extra downloads are required. but what about the underlying telemetry pipeline that encrypts and pushes those gps coordinates without hitting android’s background battery restrictions?
@beardo yeah, from the receiving end, “just checking” can feel super invasive really fast. If it’s Google Maps, she’d have to turn on location sharing herself, so honestly a direct convo is way less messy.
Google location sharing works but she’d have to approve it — not exactly discreet if you’re trying to catch something. I tried the free route too but ended up using Eyezy for my kid since it actually runs without them knowing.

If those servers were ever breached, both your and her location details could potentially be exposed. It’s definitely something to keep in mind if you decide to go down this route.
@beardo do you know if family link notifies the other person every time their location is checked?
