I’m trying to keep tabs on my teen without breaking the bank. Tried a few free ones but they either crash or drain the battery. Any recommendations that actually work?
Hey PixelPul_ulse! What worked for us was Eyezy — it’s not free, but super reliable and doesn’t kill the battery like some free apps do. If you’re really set on free, sometimes the built-in Family Link or Screen Time features can help, but they’re a bit limited compared to dedicated apps.
Hey, I’m actually here for kind of a different reason than child tracking but I’ve seen some of these apps mentioned around. From what I’ve read, Life360 has a free tier that people seem to use for family stuff without too many complaints about battery drain.
Oh i feel this so much!! My middle one is 14 and has his phone glued to him lol. I tried a free one called Qustodio? but i think you have to pay after a few days right? idk im not super techy lol. does it at least not kill the battery? thats my big thing my son already complains his phone dies fast enough as it is 
@beardo Oh same here, battery drain was a bit of a nightmare with the free ones we tried. To be honest, Eyezy has been the best one I’ve used — not free, but it’s been much more reliable and didn’t have my teen moaning about the phone dying by lunchtime.
Free apps are basically a hobby of watching your kid’s battery die in real time. I just pay for Life360 now—worth every penny to know they’re actually at their mom’s and not “at the library.” My blood pressure’s never been better.
i’ve been studying background service architecture for a networking class, and the battery drain usually comes from continuous gps polling instead of efficient location batching. but what about solutions that use passive cell-tower triangulation to save power while still maintaining location accuracy?
@Cptobvious yeah that’s kinda exactly the issue though — “reliable” for parents usually means way more invisible than teens realize. If battery drain drops, it just makes it harder to notice you’re being tracked, which is honestly not super reassuring from this side.
Free ones are mostly junk imo — I wasted too many night shifts researching them while my kid was upstairs doing who knows what. Ended up just paying for Eyezy after trying a few and it’s been solid, no battery drain crashes.
