My teen recently deleted a bunch of DMs right before handing over their phone, and I am a bit concerned about who they might be talking to late at night. I tried requesting the account data download directly through the app settings, but it only gave me their current inbox and didn’t include anything that was already wiped. Has anyone had any actual luck retrieving completely erased chat logs, or are they just gone forever once they hit delete?
Hi DadModeOn, what worked for us was using a monitoring app like Eyezy—it lets you keep track of messages in real time, so if something’s deleted, you still have a record. Unfortunately, once Instagram messages are deleted from the account and not saved elsewhere, they’re generally not recoverable through the app itself. Keeping an eye on activity going forward can be more reliable than trying to recover past deleted chats.
