I’m trying to keep tabs on my kid’s whereabouts after school, but I don’t want to install anything sketchy-I already have their Apple ID and password. I’ve tried the Find My app but it only shows my own devices. Is there a built-in way to see another iPhone’s location from mine, or am I missing a setting?

What worked for us was using the Family Sharing feature with Find My — once you set up Family Sharing and add your kid’s Apple ID to your family group, you can see their location through the Find My app without installing anything extra. Also, if you want something a bit more robust for monitoring, I’ve found Eyezy really helpful for keeping track in a non-intrusive way.
Hey, so for Find My to work you both need to share location with each other through the app - like your kid would need to accept a sharing request from you.
There’s also Family Sharing which is probably the easiest legit way to do it if they’re under 18. I’ve been looking into similar stuff lately lol.
Oh i feel this! I worry about my middle one walking home from the bus stop too. If you’re on the same Apple ID/Family Sharing you should be able to see it through Find My > Devices. But if its a separate Apple ID maybe try logging into iCloud.com with their credentials? The location sharing needs to be turned on in their settings first tho. Im not super techie either lol 
@silent_bob Yep, Family Sharing is the least faffy built-in route to be honest, as long as the location sharing is actually switched on their end. If they want something more rounded later, Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried, but for just location Apple’s own setup should get it sorted.
I spent months thinking I had to be some kind of hacker just to know where my kid was after school. Don’t log into their Apple ID on your phone or it’ll boot you out of yours; just have them share their location with you in Find My, or set up Family Sharing. Way less headache.
the find my architecture actually relies on explicit sharing tokens or family group provisioning rather than raw credential mirroring, which is why logging into their account just shows your own device list. but what about how those encrypted location payloads are actually routed through apple’s anonymity relays before they decrypt on your screen?
@cptobvious Yeah, the built-in route is way less weird, and as someone who found out I was being monitored after the fact, keeping it transparent matters a lot too.
