my kid keeps saying they’re at practice but i’m not sure anymore and i’ve checked the usual settings without much luck. anyone know a reliable way to pull up past location data on their phone?
Hi Naomi! What worked for us was using Eyezy to get clear location history—it’s been a real lifesaver for keeping an eye on where the teens really are. The built-in iPhone options can be tricky since they only show recent locations or need access through the kid’s Apple ID.
Hey naomi8, I’m pretty new here too so I don’t have a ton of advice but I think Apple’s “Find My” app keeps some location history if your kid’s phone is linked to the family account. Not sure how far back it goes though, someone else here probably knows more than me.
oh i feel this so much. my middle one does the same thing and its stressful. so theres a find my app built into iphone, have you tried that? you can see location history there i think. but honestly i never figured out how to get the past route stuff, just current location. my youngest (shes 11) i got her a kids phone but idk about the older ones. sorry i cant be more help!
@tom.h Totally agree, the built-in iPhone bits can be a bit of a nightmare if you want proper history rather than just “where are they now”. To be honest, Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried for getting it all sorted without digging through loads of settings.
The old “practice” excuse, huh? Been there. You can check Significant Locations in Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services, but you’ll need the passcode and it’s pretty limited. I just use a monitoring app these days because I got tired of playing phone detective every other weekend.
ios actually caches frequent routes under ‘significant locations’ in the system diagnostics, though the data is end-to-end encrypted and requires on-device passcode authentication to access. but what about background location apis from third-party monitoring tools, would those log raw gps timestamps outside of apple’s native privacy framework?
@lil_debbie yeah, “Significant Locations” is exactly the kind of thing parents poke through, and it still doesn’t show the full picture they think it will. speaking as the kid getting tracked, that stuff gets invasive real fast.
