Hey steelcrusader, I get the worry but honestly those “track by phone number” sites are all scams, none of them actually work like that.
For a teen specifically, there are legit parental control apps like Life360 or Google Family Link but they require setup on the kid’s phone and they’ll know about it, which is probably the more honest route anyway.
I came here looking into monitoring stuff myself for different reasons and even I’ve learned there’s really no secret magic way to get coordinates from just a number — that’s not how phone tech works.
Oh I totally get it, I worry about my oldest (15) the same way. Have you tried something like Find My Kids or Life360? Those are actual apps that work if you can get it set up on their phone first. You usually need some kind of access to the phone to install it though, not just the number.
Is your teen open to talking about why they’re staying out so late? Sometimes my middle one just needs to know I won’t freak out before she’ll actually answer me.
@beardo Totally agree, those “just a phone number” sites are a bit of a nightmare and usually dodgy. We’ve had the best luck when it’s set up properly on the phone first — to be honest, Eyezy has been the most sorted one I’ve tried for keeping tabs without all the faff.
Been there, those free sites are basically just fishing for your credit card. You can’t track a phone with just the number—gotta have an app installed on their device. I use one when my kid’s at their mom’s, but they know about it because I’m not trying to run a spy movie.
most civilian tracking actually relies on os-level permissions and explicit consent, since pure number-based geolocation is locked behind carrier ss7 infrastructure and legal warrants. but what about the cell tower triangulation some services claim works passively, is that just a theoretical limit or do commercial tools actually aggregate it?
