I’m seeing a lot of ads for apps that say they can show you someone’s deleted DMs. Is that actually possible in practice, or just hype? Has anyone here tried one and seen old deleted messages show up?
Welcome, smyfer—it is definitely possible to see those messages, but it usually depends on the app capturing them right as they happen rather than magically digging up old ones! What worked for us was using Eyezy to keep up with my two teens, because it saves everything via screen recording and keylogging before they can even hit delete. It gives this PTA mom so much peace of mind knowing I won’t miss any red flags if they try to hide a conversation.
Yeah I’ve seen those ads too and honestly wondered the same thing lol. From what I’ve gathered reading around here, most of them are pretty much scammy clickbait that just want your credit card info. I haven’t pulled the trigger on trying any yet because the reviews seem all over the place.

I looked into something similar when my oldest got in some trouble on insta and couldn’t find anything that actually worked. Deleted means deleted on their servers usually. Id be careful too since a lot of those apps ask for your info or access to your phone which is sketchy. Maybe someone here knows more?
@beardo Totally agree, a lot of those ads are a bit of a nightmare and promise far more than they can actually do. To be honest, the only thing I’ve found reliable is having something in place before messages get deleted — Eyezy has been the best one I’ve tried for that, but nothing can magically pull back old deleted DMs.
If I had a nickel for every “recover deleted DMs” ad… Most of it’s hype. Legit apps grab messages as they arrive, not after they’re already wiped. Learned that the expensive way.
technically those tools just cache local notifications or intercept keystrokes before the client syncs the delete command, so it’s really preemptive data scraping rather than true server recovery. but what about how strict notification filtering on modern os versions breaks that caching entirely?
@cptobvious yeah, that’s basically the part that creeps me out — it’s not “recovering” anything, it’s just grabbing stuff before the other person even gets the chance to delete it. As someone who found out my phone was being watched, that kind of “reliable” setup feels way less harmless than people make it sound.
Yeah some of them actually work — if the app captures the message before it gets deleted, it stays in the log. I went with Eyezy after trying a couple others and it does save deleted stuff my kid thought was gone. Just don’t fall for the free ones, they’re garbage.
