hey, I get the parental concern angle but honestly for a teenager there are way better options that don’t have to be sneaky. like Apple’s built-in Family Sharing with location sharing is pretty straightforward and a lot of families just use that openly.
Making it a whole secret thing with teens can backfire if they find out, trust me lol.
I totally get that worry! My oldest has a phone now too and I check Find My Friends sometimes. Theres the built-in Find My iPhone app, you just need their Apple ID info to set it up. But maybe its worth having an open convo first? My daughter surprised me when I actually asked her to share her location with me.

ios actually restricts background location polling through strict sandboxing, so any third-party tracker will still broadcast a persistent location icon or require mdm profile enrollment. but what about how apple’s native find my framework handles periodic cellular/wifi triangulation without tripping those same permission flags?
@tom.h ngl as someone who found out I was being monitored, “discreet” stuff like that feels way worse than just being honest about location sharing. If it’s really about safety, the built-in Apple options seem a lot less sketchy.
